About
Mr. Kayuni is Senior Lecturer in University of Malawi’s Political and Administrative Studies Department and currently he is on study leave pursuing PhD (Political Science) studies at the University of Western Cape. He joined the University of Malawi, Department of Political and Administrative Studies, in 2002 as Staff Associate after working for some time as Research Assistant in various research projects under Center for Social Research, Center for Language Studies, Gender Policy Unit and Save the Children (US) - in collaboration with University of North Carolina. He also worked as Programme Manager for Women’s World Banking-Malawi Affiliate. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree (MPA) from the University of Stellenbosch obtained in 2004. During his studies, he won several awards such as the South African Embassy Study Bursary Award (during the second year of his studies in the University of Malawi), Stellenbosch’s Postgraduate Merit Bursary Award (at the completion of his honours degree), School of Public Planning and Management’s Student of the Year Award (DUK-Student 2005) and the prestigious PricewaterhouseCooper Award for being the best MPA student. Taking into consideration the multidisciplinary nature of Public Administration, Mr Kayuni has authored (or co-authored) over twenty journal articles and book chapters as well as over fifty research reports/conference papers in the areas of Public Governance/Administration, Management, Gender, Politics, and Development. In relation to training programmes, Mr Kayuni has facilitated numerous Team Building programmes for various district local assemblies and Government Ministries in the country. He has also been involved in training members of parliament under the Democracy Consolidation Programme. Mr. Kayuni is also a trained SADC-PF Elections Observer. Together with his colleague in the department, Mr Kayuni facilitated and drafted the ‘Malawi Community Development Policy’. He also assisted in the drafting of the ‘Malawi Refugee Policy’ which is yet to be submitted to cabinet. Mr Kayuni speaks the following languages: English, Chichewa, Chitumbuka, Chindali, Kyangonde (and basic French).
